I know, you get it. We love fat bikes. There is a reason why we are so excited about them and why it has presence on this site. Now with impending rain and 40 deg days, I would like to look back at this past Winter. After a couple of years of very little snow fall, we must have gotten the culmination of those years worth of snow this season!
In the past, I would typically cozy up at home most days, shuddering away from the cold. But this year, I found myself very excited for the fluffy white stuff to hit the ground. It was a feeling I’ve never had before even being a year round cyclist. This year I LOVED winter riding. My Pugsley encouraged me to explore the winter wilderness. It pushed me to pedal more and through tough terrain. It gave me something to get excited for in the dead of winter.

Now, I’m not writing this to paint a wondrous picture of fat biking in order to sell more bikes. I write this to encourage everyone to go out and enjoy the beautiful landscape that Wisconsin has to offer. I post these two videos to show how amazing our natural world is if we go and explore them. I know not everyone can afford a new bike or new gear for whatever REI is selling. But a nice pair of winter boots and jacket is plenty enough to go for hikes. My Pugsley has surpassed it’s worth by implementing exercise and sheer enjoyment through these cold months.
With this new found love for winter, I’m excited to try out snow shoeing and XC skiing next year. Heck, I may as well ride my fat bike to the ski trails! With a lot of cuts in our budgets, we may lose some support for maintaining our state and other parks. Let’s not let that happen. Just support your local parks by using them!
I’ll polish up my Pugsley in the next couple of weeks but it’s not going into storage. Just getting it prepped for beach riding!

Winter riding is nothing but fun – add a headlight and that just ups the ante. Earl is a huge resource for equipment and bike set up.
